Let's talk make up remover! It is a well known fact that you should literally never wake up in the morning with dark smudges under your eyes. And if you do, that means you’ve been using a terrible makeup remover (or you got home in the wee hours of the night after an awesome party!). The truth is that the majority of liquid makeup removers and wipes are simply not strong enough, or effective enough to really clean your skin.
I honestly despised buying and using makeup remover before I started making my own make-up removers! I feel like I never really managed to find one which my skin would tolerate. One would dry my skin out, another would just not manage to take all of my make up off and I would end up rubbing my eyes just to be able to take my mascara off! Great- now I look like a raccoon *eye roll*.
I needed to find a solution and I did! So here's my little recipe:
1 oz Witch Hazel - I like using T.N. Dickinson's 100% Natural Witch Hazel which you can find in your local pharmacy.
1 oz Grapeseed Oil - You can find one right here
0.2 oz Lavender Essential Oil - You can find one here
Small Travel Bottles - These are great!
Shake before you use it!
That's it! This is all you need! So you're probably wondering why I chose there products, right?
Let's dive into that!
Witch Hazel- This amazing plant helps reduce inflammation, and decreases oil and redness. It can lessen bacteria growth on the skin while speeding up the healing of scars, scabs, and infection. If you have oily skin (like me), it will help to balance the skin’s pH level and moisturize without leaving your skin feeling greasy. Another benefit of witch hazel for acne-prone skin is that it reduces the look of pores, stops excess oil production, and it helps to stop the development of whiteheads and blackheads that contribute to those horrendous breakouts!
Grapeseed Oil- Its ideal thickness, is rich in vitamins C, D, and E! (these guys help reduce wrinkles and scars!). The antioxidants in the oil help treat acne as well. The oil also acts as an able moisturizer – balancing both the dry and oily patches on the skin. As a toner, the oil can penetrate pores and cleanse the skin – thereby curing breakouts. Isn't this oil just wonderful!?
Lavender Essential Oil- Not only does it smell good, but there has also been research involving the inhalation of the essential oil that has shown it can reduce both stress and anxiety. Some of the superpowers of this amazing essential oil include- skin detoxing, treating acne, improve blood circulation and relieve dry and itchy skin!
I hope this recipe helps you as it helped me! I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin after using my DIY makeup remover! Comment below and let me know what you think!

I’m sure that beard care products and viking themed skincare is not the first thing you think of when you hear the company’s name is Rose Buds Chicago! A lot of people seem to be thrown off or confused by the name. Which, I take as a compliment. I mean, I would think people are pleasantly surprised by what they find on my website!! :)
So, why the hell did I chose the name Rose Buds Chicago?! A name which does not portray most of my products. I get asked this question a lot!
I like to put meaning behind everything I create! I believe that when a person creates something, anything, it should symbolize what the person stands for and what that person loves. That is what makes you stand out and distinguishes you from the mob.
My grandmother always said: " If you are going to do something, do it from your heart or don't do it at all!! ". A wonderful message I will never forget for the rest of my life! (Thank you grandma!).
Almost all of my products have a backstory and a reason why I chose the name or the particular ingredients for the product. The name of my brand shouldn’t be any different, right?! Right!
Here’s the backstory on that!
If you have scrolled through the About page of my website you probably already know my background! Bulgaria! A wonderful tiny country in the middle of the Balkans with rich history and strong traditions!
One thing Bulgarians are extremely well known for is our obsession with roses! That’s right, you read correctly- obsession! Bulgaria has a huge rose valley in the heart of the country, which is more of a “notion” rather than an actual locate. There are over 7000 varieties of roses worldwide, yet only few are known as oil-producing. The Rosa Damascena, cultivated in the Bulgarian Rose Valley for over 300 years, is considered the best oil-bearing rose renowned worldwide.
Unique climate and soil make the Rose Valley the perfect home for rose growing and rose oil production. The mountain rains and fresh air create the perfect environment for the plentiful pure botanicals that grow in the Valley. Mild winters prepare the rose plants for the blossoming season. The air humidity, cloudiness and precipitation in May and June contribute to the cultivation of roses that yield very high percentage of oil.
Every year, during the first weekend of June, local community in Kazanlak organizes the annual Rose Festival. The first festival took place 108 years ago, in 1903. Celebrations were held annually, at the beginning of the rose- harvesting period. Manufacturers from the whole valley gather dressed up in rose flowers. Mummers, called “koukeri” take part in the street parade. People sing and dance in the streets during the whole fest.
Three main events are worth a visit – early morning harvesting ritual in the rose fields, the electing of Queen Rose and the parade along the streets of each town. The processions and the celebrations last for two days. The climax of the festival in on Sunday when Queen Rose is being elected and festival parade takes place along the main streets of each village.
I hope this explains a little better why this name is so important tome and why I would never ever want to change it!
I am a sucker for customs and traditions and have dedicated a whole Rose Collection in honor of my heritage! Check it out!
